Accommodation - Buy or Rent?
Here's the deal. I will be relocating with my family (wife + daughter) - hence I'm likely to rent an entire apartment. Likely to spend between US$48k and US$60k on rental during the PhD pursuit ($800 to $1k per month for 5 years).
Would it make more sense to buy an apartment (say, for around US$100k) instead? Any comments?

Just to update, we have rented an apartment for the next one year. It was kind of hard to find an apartment - we thought we came a bit earlier. Anyway, finally settled for a nice place - quite, safe and cozy.... good for my wife and daughter. The con is that I need to take a 30 mins bus ride to school....
