Re: Conferences

Geeky,
How do you fund these conferences. Does your Department pay for these conferences fully and upfront. Or  you have to  pay and submit receipt for reimbursement. If the department pays for the conferences , what are the limits.. how many conferences will the Department  fund in an academic year ... how many conferences do you feel are professional required  in an academic year ... Thank you

Cheers

Re: Conferences

Hi Ansah,

It depends on your school's or department's policies. Departments may give you some funding (especially if you are presenting). Your faculty may also fully/partially sponsor you. The funding usually covers the registration fees, transport, and room. I guess you would need to submit the receipts to be reimbursed. The best thing is to check with your department.

There are usually one or two major conferences in each field. It would be good if you can go for them (at least one). Then there could be some niche conferences that are very relevant to your research interest or current projects, etc. You may find it useful to attend such conferences too. I don't think there is a magic number of conferences to attend per year - it is driven more by your need to go. E.g. if you are about to enter the job market, I guess it is good to go for more conferences.

Are there some conferences that you are thinking of going to?
